Building with Nature

At Azuri, sustainability is not an abstract concept. It is part of everyday life.

The village grows in harmony with its surroundings, blending innovation, respect, and care for the generations to come.

Sustainability
at Azuri Village

From the outset, Azuri has aimed to create a village where nature and community thrive together. More than a place to live, it is a living ecosystem designed to last, where every choice balances environmental responsibility with quality of life.
13% of the village’s land is dedicated to green spaces, well above the 4% required by the Smart City Scheme. This commitment to preservation is deeply rooted in our DNA. Parks, endemic forests, ponds, and green corridors shape a living landscape that supports biodiversity and well-being.
Our infrastructure follows the same philosophy with a focus on respectful design. Rainwater is guided through bioswales and retention ponds, eco-efficient materials are prioritised, renewable energy sources are integrated, and the road network has been improved with the new roundabout.
Every initiative serves a clear goal: to make Azuri a model of resilience, a village where current and future generations share a balanced, inspiring, and lasting environment.
Smart Living
At Azuri, smart living begins with design that works with nature. Building orientation, natural ventilation, and open layouts allow sea breezes to circulate freely, cutting the need for air conditioning and lowering energy use and carbon emissions.
This approach shapes the daily life of residents: natural airflow cools interiors, public spaces feel open and calm, and comfort comes naturally without relying heavily on mechanical systems. Smart Living here means building with nature, using simple and effective solutions that enhance residents’ well-being and strengthen the collective resilience of the village.
Road Network
Improvements
At Azuri, sustainability also means how we move. To make travel safer and smoother, a new roundabout and secure access have been built at the village entrance, an investment of around 41 million rupees. A junction once prone to accidents, congestion, and uncontrolled entries is now calm and easy to navigate.
Traffic flows better within the village and along the main Roches Noires road, improving access for residents, visitors, and service partners. Queues are shorter and emissions from idling engines are lower, supporting safer and more sustainable mobility.
Basins and Bioswales for Better Water Management
Since 2012, Azuri’s master plan has evolved to embrace nature-based solutions. Designed with Atelier LD and SJPCE, the stormwater framework launched in 2024 favours absorption and infiltration over traditional concrete pipes and buried networks. A kilometre of roadside bioswales, together with a bioretention area, turns rainwater into a resource.
Linked to natural drainage lines, these features guide runoff, recharge the water table, and reduce flooding, erosion, and pollutants reaching the ocean. This innovative blue-green network also eases heat build-up, improves airflow, and, in the dry season, doubles as parks and gardens people can enjoy. Further initiatives will soon build on this sustainable approach.
