It is official, the very first edition of the Azuri Golf Tournament has made history, and what an entrance it made. On 19 September 2026, The Nine came alive to the rhythm of drives, putts and bursts of laughter. Executives, managers and enthusiasts all answered the call for a day where sport went hand in hand with generosity. Here is the story of a first edition that landed right on target.
A rainy morning, a sun-drenched tee off
Let's be honest, in the early hours the Mauritian weather put our composure to the test. A few drops, then a few more, enough to make even the optimists wonder. But golf always has a trick or two up its sleeve. By lunchtime, the clouds had packed their bags, and the sun had settled over the fairways at The Nine, as if it had no intention of missing such a special occasion. Perfect conditions, spirits high: the tournament could truly begin.
On the green: fair play, laughter and some serious swings
Played in teams of four in a Fourball alliance format, the competition lived up to every promise. On the greens, focus was the order of the day; between holes, good spirits were quick to take over. Great shots met with applause; wayward balls met with smiles: the mood swung beautifully between competitive spirit and the sheer joy of playing together.
And since a tournament would be nothing without its champions, let's roll out the leaderboard. Victory went to the team led by James Rey, Brendan Kerr, Loïc Mamet and Andy Leong Son, who put together a masterful round. Right behind them, the team of John Mchardy, Damien Chasteau, Laurence Grisey and Gilbert Dominique Poisson claimed a superb second place, while Ram Ramdewar, Arnaud Halimi, Kevin Stone and Ross Macbeth rounded off the podium in style.
On the individual side, a big bravo to Laurence Grisey, crowned First Lady of the tournament, and to the kings of the nearest to the pin, those shots dropped closest to the flag: Damien Chasteau on hole 5, Nicolas Ng on hole 9 and James Rey on hole 11. Fine swings that will stay in our memories.
Golf that aims true: a day in service of two causes
While the competitive spirit was very much alive, the real stakes lay elsewhere. The Azuri Golf Tournament was first and foremost designed as a charity event, in support of two Mauritian associations close to our hearts: Étoile de Mer and Anou Grandi. Every participation helped support projects with a strong social impact. Proof that a birdie can also do a world of good around it.
The 19th hole: heading to Rivazur
As golf tradition would have it, the finest round of all was played at the famous "19th hole". At the end of the day, players and partners gathered at Rivazur for a prize giving cocktail almost with their feet in the sand, in an atmosphere as relaxed as it was warm. The perfect moment to replay every hole shot by shot, celebrate the winners and savour the occasion all together.
