The Bottle Tree at Azuri Village regains its full brilliance

At the heart of Azuri village, certain places gradually become true landmarks. The Bottle Tree is one of them. Appreciated for its colours, originality and the energy it brings to its surroundings, it has recently undergone a complete refresh.

Behind this transformation lies much more than a simple maintenance project: it is the result of careful work, patience and a strong team spirit, reflecting the attention given every day to quality of life at Azuri Village.

A project carried out with care, step by step

Bringing the Bottle Tree back to life required time, precision, and close attention to every detail. From the outset, the Azuri Estate Management (AEM) teams chose to prioritise quality and long-term durability.

When the first coat of paint did not deliver the expected result, the decision was made to redo it entirely. A demanding choice, but an essential one to ensure a lasting finish worthy of this iconic feature of the village.

The project also unfolded in harmony with the rhythm of village life. To maintain events and shared moments, including the Christmas Market, the teams adapted the work schedule with flexibility, allowing the space to continue living and welcoming the community even as it was being transformed.

A collective effort driven by team spirit

The successful completion of the project was above all made possible thanks to the dedication of the field teams.

Valerio, Akhilesh, Ashok, Chapanee and Rakesh actively contributed at every stage, demonstrating professionalism, rigour and attention to detail.

While the project involved a full team, Valerio’s commitment was particularly outstanding. For nearly three weeks, he worked continuously on the majority of the tasks, including:

  • repainting the entire structure,
  • carefully preparing each bottle,
  • installing and securing them.

Valerio was highly involved in the renovation of the Bottle Tree.

Patient and meticulous work, carried out with rigour and care, which allowed the Bottle Tree to regain all its freshness and presence.

Quality coordination and follow-up were overseen by Nicolas Calou, AEM Facilities Lead, who ensured the smooth progress of the works and compliance with the village’s standards. Laura Dantier, Communication & Admin Officer, supported the project on the administrative and organisational aspects, contributing to its overall efficiency.

Beyond individual roles, this renovation is the result of true teamwork, marked by collaboration, communication and a shared commitment to excellence. A dynamic that fully reflects the spirit of Azuri.

A shared pride in service of the village

For the teams, this achievement holds special meaning. It represents not only the completion of a project, but also a concrete contribution to a place that is enjoyed by all.

As Nicolas puts it:
“We give 100% every day to keep the village well maintained. Our commitment is not limited to major renovation or construction projects. It extends to the ongoing care, upkeep and attention that the entire community requires throughout the year.”

This perfectly reflects the mindset that drives the teams every day. Their dedication is not limited to visible achievements; it is expressed daily through maintenance, improvement and attention to the smallest details.

The satisfaction at the end of the project is therefore twofold: the pride of a job well done, and the fulfilment of helping preserve the unique experience that Azuri offers its residents and visitors.

A work of art that is part of Azuri’s story

Beyond its renovation, the Bottle Tree is first and foremost a powerful artistic piece, deeply connected to the identity of the village.

Created in 2013 by Mauritian artist Nirmal Hurry, it reflects an artistic approach centred on transformation and the second life of materials. A graduate of Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the artist has developed a distinctive signature around creative reuse.

Over the years, the Bottle Tree has become a symbol of creativity, sustainability and poetry at the heart of the village.

By supporting its restoration, Azuri sought to preserve this artistic heritage and give it a new life.

Today, brighter and more vibrant than ever, the Bottle Tree continues to welcome residents and visitors, bringing colour, inspiration and a touch of emotion to a place we all cherish.
